Why not begin the school year with a “science smorgasbord,” a first day activity that is sure to get your students excited about science. A science smorgasbord is a collection of introductory activities that invite inquiry through hands-on experiences. Arranged in numbered stations around the room, the activities use manipulatives to promote exploration and discovery. Included at the stations are suggestions for using the manipulatives and thought-provoking questions to guide exploration.
Our First Day of Science Class Kit gives you all you need to set up a science smorgasbord in your classroom. The seven activities selected for the kit are meant to provide a sneak peek of kinematics, fluids, sound, electromagnetism, and optics, topics traditionally studied in a physics or physical science class.
